Curb your enthusiasm - watch it!

by yackyack @ 2007-06-23 - 11:23:47

I don't usually get too excited by tv shows, but it happens. Its good to laugh, last night I was introduced to the joys of curb your enthusiasm written by Larry David. For those of you who never heard of him he is the guy who co created Seinfeld. That prodigious show that run for ages full of observational gems.

There's a lot of fun to be had in watching the quirks and idiosyncrasises of others. People are funny. Lets just say that again for effect people are funny.

I'm really howling at this show, as a result I've done bugger all this morning other than sit around Reggieless supping coffee and snorting at sillyisms.

Larry David is basically playing himself in this show and has managed to weave together a marvellous assortment of little funnies built upon characters and the quirks they have, witty little dialogues, random affronts, obsequitious panderings I could go on. Its full of those little nuggets that could you'd only really either hear about 3rd hand or yeah, watch in a TV comedy show like this.

Do yourself a favour either go to shop and buy a box set or if you have Virgin TV, switch on to the on demand comedy section and catch it there, its pure fuckin genuis. Why can't we make stuff like this over here?

we cant make it over here because of all the political and moral sensitivities. maybe it's a lack of creative talent

That's an interesting angle PB - BBC filtering some of it out perhaps, I'm not so sure on the lack of talent thing though - I'm sure it's here in abundance, it just doesn't get the opportunity to shine.

How many ultra witty fuckers have you known in your natural? Lots of sharp, ice edged witty mother fuckers I bet :D

How many of those given the right set of circumstances could create something originally funny? It's not just that though, if you look at some of these USA comedy shows, you'll find that they have teams of writers in huge numbers, genuinely funny people all sitting around brainstorming and ad libbing stuff to see where it goes and consistantly coming up with lots of funny shit.

Good comedy writers should'nt have to look too far for inspiration, its already around us in abundance, they just gotta go look in any workplace, family setting, pub, supermarket even to find it.

i love curb your enthusiasm, i agree with rob,... comedy should be from anything taken from anywhere...

Don't know about not being able to make it there, I have seen and become a huge fan of some simply hilarious Brit coms such as the Office, Ab Fab, Faulty Towers, Dead Ringers and of course little Britain. Curb your Enthusiasm is a great comedy (as is Trailer Park Boys, although not all Canuks behave that way!). You might also try Boston Legal, it's terribly witty, not too serious and brilliantly acted.

Hi thanks for stopping by to comment.

Sure, there are plently of little gems here too, I'm just not as enthused about miost of the newer ones I spose. I wasn't that impressed with Little Britain, although found it funny in parts. Maybe I'm just a miserable so and so who needs to appreciate a little canned laughter and silliness a little more :D. I think Ive been a little spoilt by the ealing classics like I'm alright jack and the the carry on classics of the 60's and 70's, the 'Sickness and in Healths' of the 80's the fools and horses, or maybe I've just forgotten some too!

Don't even get me started on TPB, that is genius, I still cry with laughter at Ricky and Julian and Bubbles and Lahey and Randy and Barb and..well the whole cast is just brilliant. I'll definitley look up Boston Legal. I need a few new shows to watch as I'm nearly out!
