Curb your enthusiasm - watch it!

by yackyack @ 2007-06-23 - 11:23:47

I don't usually get too excited by tv shows, but it happens. Its good to laugh, last night I was introduced to the joys of curb your enthusiasm written by Larry David. For those of you who never heard of him he is the guy who co created Seinfeld. That prodigious show that run for ages full of observational gems.

There's a lot of fun to be had in watching the quirks and idiosyncrasises of others. People are funny. Lets just say that again for effect people are funny.

I'm really howling at this show, as a result I've done bugger all this morning other than sit around Reggieless supping coffee and snorting at sillyisms.

Larry David is basically playing himself in this show and has managed to weave together a marvellous assortment of little funnies built upon characters and the quirks they have, witty little dialogues, random affronts, obsequitious panderings I could go on. Its full of those little nuggets that could you'd only really either hear about 3rd hand or yeah, watch in a TV comedy show like this.

Do yourself a favour either go to shop and buy a box set or if you have Virgin TV, switch on to the on demand comedy section and catch it there, its pure fuckin genuis. Why can't we make stuff like this over here?

Happy Fathers Day

by yackyack @ 2007-06-17 - 21:11:28

So fathers day is nearly done, I saw my daddy we had some fun

Sat there in some carvery, drinking beer and making glee

Three generations linked by genes, tucking in to beef and greens

The serving wench was quite a sight, her t-shirt being very tight

Greengrocers cliches thoughts abound, thank god my lips - they made no sound

Ice cream sir, raspberry ripple? No thank you darlin just another tipple

Shit I'm late

by yackyack @ 2007-06-17 - 10:26:44

Shit I'm late its ten nineteen

My kids will wonder where Ive been

Sitting on my arse a typing

Random thoughts that needed citing

Time has come to jump in the shower

Wash my hair and have a scour

Its fathers day, after all

A time for pressies smiles and all

Look at the time its ten twenty one

Its now that time, I have to run

Sunshine and Honey

by yackyack @ 2007-06-17 - 10:18:03

The world outside as seen through slats, piercing through my frontroom flat

Blinds drawn down just half open, light filters in so softly spoken

Just a glimpse is all that's needed, the quiteness of the world receded

Windows shut sounds are silenced, yet movements detect an unreliance

For of course it isn't at all quiet, if anything chaotic, random fired

Tempting one to go outside, embrace the movements enjoy the ride

Dance within that scattered light, opened up and oh so bright

Warm gold sunshine, smiling kids, laughing loud amongst orchids

Full in bloom stamens proud, teasing the approaching insect crowd

Bees that buzz fly elegant, drawn on in, by musky scent

Its deft aroma helps maketh honey, gold translucence all sweet and yummy

Waiting to be bought off of shelves, by full grown flowers with little elves

Get off yo ass

by yackyack @ 2007-06-16 - 09:46:34

Get off your lazy arse and get out in the air

Go shake your booties like you don't really care

Go check some honies, Go check some beau's

Go check a movie or some soft porn show

Go eat an ice cream on Southend Pier

Go ride the train on the choo choo fair

Go out and meet it, embrace it with a kiss

Make your today a one that you'll miss

Activity Partners

by yackyack @ 2007-06-15 - 17:56:59

I've knocked up this little website whereby you can find activity partners in sports and things you are interested in finding partners in.

It's an ongoing project so excuse the debris - seriously, it might be of use to you at some point, feel free to check it out and bookmark it for future use.

Critical Mass - Philip Ball

by yackyack @ 2007-06-15 - 10:27:02

Ive been reading this book by a chap named Philip Ball called Critical Mass.

It really is kinda cool in a geekazoid kinda way. It looks at patterns of behaviour in things, both animate and inanimate and draws all these great scientific and historical strands of thought together to explain it and make sense of it all.

What I really like is the way he manages to weave the philosophical with the scientific. Adam Smith with particle physics! Exciting huh? ;)

Put like that it sounds kinda boring, but it aint, honest. If you ever watched a crowd of birds dancing in the sky together and wondered of its origins or how they all seemed to know where they were going and were amazed at how they never bump into each other and plummet downwards, or get lost and fly off in different directions, then this will be right up your street.

I'm only half way through it, and its the type of book that you have to read a few pages and then sort of sit down and reflect on it a while.Well, that's how Ive been reading it. There is a lot of stuff to take in and get your head around. The cooling properties of metals and how they superconduct at various temperatures. Gases that turn into superfluids and literally crawl out of their containers. Magnets that lose magnicity when heated and why and then reading about how that can be applied to human condition and why it even matters.

I'm not in a wordy mood so I'll say no more than you can check it out here. (aff link)

C4 sacks Emily - PR management or absolutely right , you decide

by yackyack @ 2007-06-08 - 12:31:39

Were Channel4 right to remove Emily from that television studio set aka the big brother house?

Edit:Here's what was said verbatim

Emily: (referring to Charley dancing/pushing her hips forward) You pushing it out you **

Nicky: (shocked laughter) Em, I can't believe you said that.

Charley: You are in trouble.

Emily: Don't make a big thing out of it then. I was joking.

Charley: I know you were... but that's some serious **, sorry.

Emily: Why?

Charley: Oh my God. I'm not even saying it.

Nicky: Just don't talk about it anymore.

Emily: I was joking

Charley: Do you know how many viewers would watch that?

Nicky: Okay, don't make a big deal out of it.

Charley: Fancy you saying that. I can't believe you said that.

Emily: Somebody has already used that word in this house.

Charley: No way. (Pause) Yeah, me. I'm a **.

Nicky laughs.

Charley: I am one. Fancy you saying it. I know maybe you see it in a rap song. Maybe you and your friends sit there saying it.

Emily: I'm friendly with plenty of black people.

Nicky: And you call them *?

Emily: Yeah and they call me **. They call me wiggers as well.

Nicky: I'm quite shocked.

Charley: I'm f** in shock. Emily: It's not a big deal though is it?

Charley: Not for us it ain't. F*** me. Source(s):

Ive worked with people who used to refer to each other as wanker and big cunt and worse. It was how it was, like a form of socially expected discourse - sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.

Ive a colleague at work, who greets me with a 'good morning Rob you big cuuunt'. Another colleague says 'watum honkey', neither of which bothers me.

In fact we've even joked in the past when i've made him a dodgy cup of tea. He says stuff like, "you only made it bad cos I'm black innit" IOW, he doesn't really give two shits. He knows I'm not racist, he knows Ive got relatives who are mixed race, but that's not the point, I don't want to sound like one of those tossers who say things like "I'm not racist, Ive even got friends who are (black pink white green) but...blah blha blha"

Emily by virtue and utterance of the N word quite clearly I suspect, offended a lot of people. A whole lot of people couldn't really care less too and take a less horrified view and tone

George Galloway on Big brothers Big mouth suggested that Emily was just trying to be 'Street'.

I agree with him. I think its all a big brouhah over nothing. But then, I'm not black, I haven't been subjected to abusive offensive language ever, maybe its because I'm unoffendable or just plain white, god knows.

I do respect the fact that some people are though, so maybe on that basis alone this Bristolian person just had to go,or maybe she didn't - perhaps it would have been better to have seen this played out in the house itself. Why should such things be swept under the carpet, isn't it healthier to have some honest open debate? Isn't the discussion and understanding of a dynamic far more productive sociologically, than a view that seems to suggest discussion of, or mere mention of, is almost bordering on the criminal/anti social and should therefore be extinguished at all costs.

Getting back to Channel 4, I think they took the decision based upon money and anticipated outrage from various interest groups who would have jumped on it as an example of them riding roughshod over the concerns raised from the last race related episode of jade Goodie and Shilpa Shetty .

Should they have let that little sheltered community decide how they wanted to go with it? Or were they right to remove her ass?

What do you think?

Having a morning coffee planning out my day

by yackyack @ 2007-06-06 - 09:27:16

It was nice to have a little lie in this morning. I love it when I work from home, not having to rush about because Ive left it all too late again due to persistant hitting of the snooze button. Not having to break the speed limits just to make up for the 10 minutes extra shuteye Ive grabbed. Not having to negotiate heavier traffic streams on the A1(M).

Did you know that if you get on the A1 M junction 8 before 6 am the traffic is just so much lighter? It seems that everyman and his dog leaves their house in North Herts at 6am and heads off in to London. Spud lorries, delivery drivers, builders, flash city types, lazy web developers ;)...

I start my days in the office early. It just makes sense. I start early so I can finsih early. Its win win, I miss both morning and evening rush hours this way. I once did 9 - 5 and had to leave my house at 7am just to get in work on time and wasn't getting home till gone 7pm. Mad huh? That was 10 extra hours per week stuck in traffic wasting juice, wasting precious time doing nish.

Having just finished the last mouthful of coffee and spoonful of Special K Red (very yum) I thought I'd do a little blog to help plan out what I intend to do.

Ive already spoken with the office and ironed out a few little issues, checked the emails for support stuff, checked the serves that host the websites, so thats a few jobs done already. I need to go and check out and see if there are any sponsored blog review opportunites too. I did one yesterday for some tech advertising program and earned $94 dollars for 20 minutes work, doing something that I do anyway, so win win there.

I need to check out a few sites i've been working on and see what I can do to lift them out of the SERP (Search Engine Results Pages) dungeon they are in. I also need to work on the activity partners website project too. Ive figured that if there was a way for people to easily hook up with others in their area to do things with, then that would be pretty cool - alas ive been dragging my feet and been a little lazy on it. Part of the rason i think is that lately, when im in the office i just can't get any momentum. There are too many demands on me and my time to allow me to focus on what I need to do to get it done, buts that a moan for another day; ultimately its up to me to manage myself more effectively and reduce the irritances.

Anyways, moving on - I think I'll nip out around about lunchtime and knock out a few miles on my bike. Not sure what direction I'll go in today though, its all kinda weather dependant really. If its sunny I'll head out to Shefford and come back via Arlesey, if its gloomy then I might just do a couple of circuits of the town.

I'll prolly get back at around 2 or maybe 230 dependant upon variable A or B and spend an hour or so going through emails and customer enquiries whereby at around 4pm Jordz should be back from school and taking over the telly and no doubt expecting me to to sort out a bit of dinner for him. Dad the unappreciated slave time.

Hmmn I'm suddenley in the mood for a nice bacon sarnie with brown horse that rocks. I think I'll nip out to Sainsburys and sort it out.

Have a good day :)

Check out pay per post its a cool little program that enables bloggers to get paid for blogging. Most of the opportunities are small money wise, but ifyou like writing then its a good way to put pen to paper and get a payout for your troubles. All you need is a paypal account and you are good to go.

Loving sunny days

by yackyack @ 2007-06-02 - 16:04:03

Right now as i sit here and type this up on my little makeshift roof terrace all is right with the world.

Did you ever have one of them days when you woke up and said to yourself, 'excellent I feel marvellous'?

I got up at 10am after a good session last night and felt as right as ninepence. Kids are away with their mum in Norfolk, so Ive been pretty free to do as I like today. I love it when its nice and warm, it makes you want to get out and do stuff. If I knew it was going to be this nice I would have went to London and picked my nieces up and hit the coast with them, but not to worry, its been kinda nice chilling and doing little chores. Ive been to Sainsburys and bought a few bits, Ive done the laundry and hung it all up and Ive cleaned the car too(by hand myself I might add), bought a new top had a little cruise round town, checking out the ladies and what not; which reminds me where do all the good looking women go when the sun goes in I wonder.

Anyhow, I think Im going to eat this vegetable Samosa that I bought have a quick read of the currant bun and gear myself up for another 20 mile cycle somewhere.

The great thing about living where I live is that I can head off in all manner of directions and be in countryside within minutes. Occassionally I'll detour off the beaten track and cut through a field and find myself in the middle of nowhere and find myself in a quagmire of mud or cowshit. Would be good to have a cycle partner though, as it does get a little boring sometimes. My new IPOD 80 gig jobby is good though, especially when its on shuffle. Did you know that it can hold 20000 songs - the only problem is that my hard drive is just 40gb so in theory I'd never be able to fill the thing up. Talking about cycling, last year I had this mad idea to do something called Vlogging which basically boils down to blogging but with video. I took my cam out on my bike. This is the result. Note I don't do it anymore though ;)

Contains strong language:

Adios for now
