Were Channel4 right to remove Emily from that television studio set aka the big brother house?
Edit:Here's what was said verbatim
Emily: (referring to Charley dancing/pushing her hips forward) You pushing it out you **
Nicky: (shocked laughter) Em, I can't believe you said that.
Charley: You are in trouble.
Emily: Don't make a big thing out of it then. I was joking.
Charley: I know you were... but that's some serious **, sorry.
Emily: Why?
Charley: Oh my God. I'm not even saying it.
Nicky: Just don't talk about it anymore.
Emily: I was joking
Charley: Do you know how many viewers would watch that?
Nicky: Okay, don't make a big deal out of it.
Charley: Fancy you saying that. I can't believe you said that.
Emily: Somebody has already used that word in this house.
Charley: No way. (Pause) Yeah, me. I'm a **.
Nicky laughs.
Charley: I am one. Fancy you saying it. I know maybe you see it in a rap song. Maybe you and your friends sit there saying it.
Emily: I'm friendly with plenty of black people.
Nicky: And you call them *?
Emily: Yeah and they call me **. They call me wiggers as well.
Nicky: I'm quite shocked.
Charley: I'm f** in shock. Emily: It's not a big deal though is it?
Charley: Not for us it ain't. F*** me. Source(s):

Ive worked with people who used to refer to each other as wanker and big cunt and worse. It was how it was, like a form of socially expected discourse - sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.
Ive a colleague at work, who greets me with a 'good morning Rob you big cuuunt'. Another colleague says 'watum honkey', neither of which bothers me.
In fact we've even joked in the past when i've made him a dodgy cup of tea. He says stuff like, "you only made it bad cos I'm black innit" IOW, he doesn't really give two shits. He knows I'm not racist, he knows Ive got relatives who are mixed race, but that's not the point, I don't want to sound like one of those tossers who say things like "I'm not racist, Ive even got friends who are (black pink white green) but...blah blha blha"
Emily by virtue and utterance of the N word quite clearly I suspect, offended a lot of people. A whole lot of people couldn't really care less too and take a less horrified view and tone
George Galloway on Big brothers Big mouth suggested that Emily was just trying to be 'Street'.
I agree with him. I think its all a big brouhah over nothing. But then, I'm not black, I haven't been subjected to abusive offensive language ever, maybe its because I'm unoffendable or just plain white, god knows.
I do respect the fact that some people are though, so maybe on that basis alone this Bristolian person just had to go,or maybe she didn't - perhaps it would have been better to have seen this played out in the house itself. Why should such things be swept under the carpet, isn't it healthier to have some honest open debate? Isn't the discussion and understanding of a dynamic far more productive sociologically, than a view that seems to suggest discussion of, or mere mention of, is almost bordering on the criminal/anti social and should therefore be extinguished at all costs.
Getting back to Channel 4, I think they took the decision based upon money and anticipated outrage from various interest groups who would have jumped on it as an example of them riding roughshod over the concerns raised from the last race related episode of jade Goodie and Shilpa Shetty .
Should they have let that little sheltered community decide how they wanted to go with it? Or were they right to remove her ass?
What do you think?
