by yackyack @ 2007-05-27 - 11:19:59

Steph tagged me on a 7 random facts about me meme, so here goes

  1. I'm a true Cockney born within the sounds of the Bow Bells ;)
  2. I am a 1st born Leo. As is my dad as was my grandad and  my great grandad, my son is also a 1st born Leo
  3. One of my favourite cult comedy shows is the Trailer Park Boys
  4. I once dropped a shovel on Concorde and caused a walkout at the aircraft hangar
  5. I was a fully qualified Butcher at age 16 but gave it all up at 18 apparently bored
  6. I have English, Irish and Welsh lineage - explains why I can be both fiery and dispassionate as well as have an affection for sheep :D Roasted of course
  7. I cycle between 50 and 80 miles per week - but need new routes!

Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs the 7 facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog. You have to leave those you plan on tagging a note in their comments so they know that they have been tagged and to read your blog.

Wattsy did you box at Repton in the late 80s?

Ha, Wattsy, there's a name I haven't heard for a while.

No sir,

A little history for ya - I boxed at a club in St Pancras (Camden) for about 2 years when I was about 12 called Tonbridge ran by some great old character named Pat, (who's surname escapes me) - Never fought for any titles or anything like that, but did lots of sparring and training. Kept me out of trouble for a little while really.

My old man got me into it, used to say to me get in 1st and make it count. I used to spar with him at home, he was regimental champion in the army and by all accounts was pretty tasty went by the nickname of 'one punch bob', I couldn't land one on him though , so got the hump with it and turned it in eventually due to the 'old lazy bastard lack of dedication and focus' syndrome I think, that and the fact I didn't want a flat bugle, so gave it all up and took up Taekwondo instead, before being caught with a roundhouse and having me nose bent out of shape anyway!

I regret not sticking at the boxing though, miss the adrenaline rushes.

I mentioned you to Errol and said "I know Wattsy, he did me in a London ABA qualifier in 88, you remember?"

Like I'm going to remember every geezer whose mugged him off in the ring, he's lost more than he one.

My old man was pretty decent fighter but I was coached but Giovanni (my mate Danny's Old Man) and my Uncle Dave (Amie and Luce's old man Old Man). As it goes, they used to coach Danny, Nico (my brother) and Ricky (Danny's brother) and my Grandad used to coach Giovanni and Old Man. Giovanni coaches my boy and Ricky's boy. And Danny and Luce are getting hitched in August. Now if that ain't nepotistic enough, I coach Amie in wrestling and Judo and she coaches my boy and Ricky's boy in Judo. :)

Never done Tae Kwon Do though ;)

My boy and I have little sparring bouts indoors occassionly.

There arent any clubs up this way, but we still have a laugh with it all though.

Every now and then him and his sister put the gloves on and knock the shit out of each other, its good to watch (amidst the laughing) I dont think he's really built for it though, he's all arms and legs with no substance, 6'0 bean pole with pea poppers for arms (maybe he was the milkmans) Amber gave him a right hander once, one that anyone with an appreciation for a good upper cut would have loved.I think it was at the point he started to listen to me about covering up and keeping his chin down.

On the more serious side of it all though, its good to teach him about control and not losing it. There was a time when he'd just launch into me with lunacy in his eyes. I'd pop him off and jab him and just genrally let him feel the odd thump to the cannister. Today, he's more cautious, he bobs and weaves appreciates the aspect of a good defence and counter attack and can even absorb a good little jab without fallin in a pile on the floor protesting that IM 'well out of order' I do let him wallop me one on occassions and even feign pain, just to let him know that its not all in vain and that he can hit me, he can hurt me sort of thing. Whether its improved his sense of self belief is up for debate, but it cant be bad for the confidence - going toe to toe with someone who has 100lbs on you, dad or not!

I know that some people don't like boxing but I reckorn every boy needs to know the basics. The other day, Luce walks into my Bin Laden and see's Danny on one knee and my boy throwing punches at him. She say's "what are you doing?" My boy says "Uncle Danny's going to give me a score if I can bust his hooter." She says "I'll give you a tenner if you can land one on him." Proper East End girl.

Fair play for teaching your girl though. I teach Amie but I don't let her spar. She wants to though.

Knowing you can have a ruck is always a plus in my book.

>Fair play for teaching your girl though.

Dont get me wrong, she's a gorgeous looking kid - Jord knows not to hit her in the boat and to be honest its all a bit of a mismatch most of the time.

Tell you what though, she's got a cracking left jab!

>So are you from Souwwth Lowndan?

I spose technically yeah, Im a tunnel rat sarf lundna. :(

I consider myself a fully paid up memeber of the NE London club though, especially as I was only in sarf lundon for 6 months..and, and, and, technically I was born right next to the River Thames so really thats neither south or north. Like the equator even, yeah thats it, Im an equatorial lundna :D

> You were a stoker on Concorde?

:)) yeah, damn hard work I can tell ya - have you any idea how much coal is needed to get to NYC in 3 hours ;)

Long story short, I was about 18 on a roof with me mucker doing a bit of labouring on the aircraft hangar, he shouts up at me asking for a shovel, I passed it to him (well kinda lobbed it), he moves out of the way, it bounces off the saftey fan and goes careering through the glass roof 150ft down landing on the concord below.

Workers below said 'feck that for a game of soldiers' so I was swiftly out of a job :D

>Roasting sheep!!!

:)) Um...not THAT kind of roasting

"Equatorial Lundna" :))

Stoker on Concorde are undervalued the poilots get all the girls but it the stokers who keep the plane flying, right? ;) My brother Nico worked on a site as a hub carrier for a week but it was too much like hard work.

>>hub carrier

I lasted a day on the hod, before deciding that up and down ladders with heavy bricks just didn't really agree with me. Although humping pigs and lambs and forequarters of beef was never a problem.

>>Stokers

Hmmn... steam powered powered supersonic pistons, who'd thought it eh?

You are certainly right, those girls should reconsider their pilot attractions and think about the power behind the pull so to speak. Planes fly themselves anyways, so yeah, pilots..who needs em.
